EVENT HIGHLIGHT: ur sIRENS annual HOLIDAY CONCERT 2018
As is tradition, we performed in the Sirens annual Holiday Concert in The Pier on December 6th, 2018. The Holiday Concert is always one of our favorite performances of the year, and this year was no different! The Sirens hosted an amazing event and we had so much fun getting in the holiday spirit.
event highlight: unhappy hour at the edgar allan poe museum
On October 25th we visited the Edgar Allan Poe museum in Richmond to perform during their Halloween Unhappy Hour event. We sang some spooky songs and old favorites, such as Superstition, Monster Mash, Glory and Gore, Insomniac, Crazy In Love, and Bad Romance. The Poe Museum was so gracious to invite us, and we loved singing in our Halloween costumes!
Our most recent performance was our annual Senior Farewell Concert, which was a blast! It included a fun music video, some great senior farewell speeches, and all of our favorites songs performed by the seniors over the years. Check out the whole performance at https://www.youtube.com/user/UROfftheCuff!
We recently sang the national anthem at one of UR’s Men’s basketball games played against St. Joes. We had a blast and if you went to the game, we hope you enjoyed it!
“They sounded like angels”- Lindsay Emery, UR’20
Every year a fellow University of Richmond a cappella group, the Sirens, hosts a Holiday Concert featuring all of the a cappella groups at UR. This year we sang five festive selections, including Christmas Time is Here from Charlie Brown, Little Saint Nick by the Beach Boys, Sleigh Ride, Carol of the Bells, and Pentatonix’s White Winter Hymnal. Check us out at the link below!
For the past few years we have performed at Generation Dream, a concert held at the Richmond Public Library dedicated to honoring Dr. King’s legacy and his messages of peace and justice. This year we sang Feeling Good by Michael Buble and Fix You by Coldplay. We always have a great time performing for this special cause.
We had so much fun at the Modlin Center’s Family Arts Day recently, and loved getting to interact with so many AWESOME kids and inspire them to get more involved in the arts. We performed some of our warmups for them and one of our great music director’s Abbie conducted some fun exercises to help them learn about rhythm, scales, and more.
This year we traveled to Ashley James’ (’18) Appomattox Regional Governor’s School to perform at their annual Daracappella concert, along with VCU’s Ramifications, Dragon Scales, and Main Street Station. It was a wonderful opportunity to sing alongside such talented singers and it was so fun to sing in the dark!
The University of Richmond A Cappella groups hold an annual Family Weekend Concert where we perform for the Richmond community and our families! Every year we have so much fun performing alongside the Octaves, the Sirens, and Choeur du Roi. Listen to us by clicking the link below.
